Hill Shine: Somewhere Beyond the Ordinary

There is a place in my imagination where the hills don't simply turn green beneath the sun.

They glow in shades of emerald and turquoise, deep violet and sapphire. Mountains rise in the distance beneath skies washed in pink and gold. Birds cross overhead. Wildflowers scatter across the ground. And somewhere beyond the next ridge, another brilliant landscape waits to be discovered.

At least, that's the place we see when we look at Hill Shine.

Designed by artist Rose Halsey for Robert Kaufman Fabrics, Hill Shine feels like a landscape from somewhere just beyond the ordinary — a world rooted in nature, but transformed by imagination.

Welcome to Hill Shine

There's something wonderfully difficult to place about the world depicted in these fabrics.

It could be a mountain valley at the very end of a spectacular sunset.

Or a place from a half-remembered story.

Maybe it's somewhere that exists only in imagination.

The shapes are familiar — mountains, hills, trees, flowers, birds and sky — but the colors tell us we're somewhere else entirely.

Rich blues sink into deep teals. Emerald greens meet violet and plum. Brilliant pinks and warm golds seem to illuminate the landscape from within.

These aren't the quiet colors of a distant mountain scene.

They're the colors of a place that feels alive.

A World Told Across Fabric

One of the things we love most about Hill Shine is that the collection doesn't feel like a group of unrelated prints designed simply to coordinate.

It feels like we're seeing different pieces of the same place.

A landscape stretches across one fabric. Elsewhere we find its trees. Its flowers. Its colors and textures. Small details from the world appear again in new forms.

Put the fabrics beside one another and the world gets bigger.

That's why, when we found Hill Shine, we couldn't bring ourselves to select only a few prints.

We ordered the entire selection of 11 available prints.

Because how were we supposed to choose which pieces of this brilliantly colored world to leave behind?

What Will Hill Shine Become?

That's the part we haven't decided yet.

When Hill Shine arrives at Nuts & Bolts Fabric, we're going to spread those bolts out together and see where they take us.

We know there will be a quilt.

We know there will be kits.

And we know that whatever we make needs to preserve what drew us to Hill Shine in the first place: those extraordinary rich colors, the depth of the artwork and the feeling that we're looking through a window into somewhere else.

We don't want to tame this collection.

We want to see what happens when we let it shine.
